Bruce Kieler presented an update on his on-going case study of nuclear power technology training programs in southeast Texas at the High Impact Technology Exchange Conference (HI-TEC), held in Portland, Oregon, July 27-30, 2015. Kieler noted that the anticipated retirements at nuclear power plants have not yet occurred and that this is having a significant impact on enrollments in nuclear technology training programs in Texas. Potential students are realizing that there are very few job openings in nuclear and are opting, instead, to major in high demand technological specializations, such as process technology and manufacturing technology.
